Video Insect rearing has gained a lot of attention lately. Insects have the potential to be used as an alternative protein source (e.g. food, feed, technical applications). They are able to convert low-value organic streams into their own biomass consisting of high-quality nutrients such as proteins, fats and chitin. In this video we formulate an answer to the question: ‘why should we rear insects?’ from a scientific perspective. We discuss the role and sustainability of insects as well as the application of insects in human food and animal feed. This video is made to serve as basic information for starting insect breeders.
