Report final-report-survey-15-insect-based-products-currently-sold-in-the-european-market.pdf The insect composition and microbial load of the insect have an impact on the food safety and shelf life of the food product. For this reason, 15 insect-based products were selected from different suppliers operating at European level and then further analysed. Feedback on these results (seen as reference values) will be disseminated and/or can be further applied in depth in cases of companies (WP T3 Accelerator program). Afterwards these results have the potential to be generalised and to be used as a baseline to elaborate recommendations for SMEs and companies that will be formulating these type of products. Insects are a new biomass source and many questions remain unanswered, therefore the survey here reported can be a starting point to clarify key aspects in insect production which are relevant for both the producers and the consumers.
