ValuSect - Valuable inSects

Planetary boundaries and food security are two major topics that arise in the context of a growing global population. Insects have been proven to be a valuable addition to our food and are commonly eaten in many traditional diets. Yet, they are a rather new food in the Western countries. In the ValuSect-project we conducted research and strategies to collect, enhance and disseminate knowledge on breeding, application and consumers acceptance regarding four insect species, namely Tenebrio molitor, Acheta domesticus, Locusta migratoria and Hermetia illucens. ValuSect therefore aimed to provide insights on how to improve insect production and processing for food and feed as well as consumer's attitudes in order to boost the insect sector.
